Merton board approves recycling agreement, appoints supervisor to Moose Lake board and combines school tax parcels

The Town of Merton Town Board on Feb. 9 approved several routine governance items, including an intergovernmental agreement with Waukesha County on the municipal recycling dividend program, the appointment of Supervisor John Krogmann to the Moose Lake District Board, and a decision to combine two North Lake School District tax parcels so the district would be charged a combined acreage for the 2026 fire fee.
Chairman Klink presented a letter from the North Lake School District and noted the town itself pays a fire fee and cannot control the school district's fire inspection fee. Clerk Donna Hann reported that the two affected parcels measure 8.681 acres and 6.257 acres; the board approved combining the tax keys and charging a combined acreage for the 2026 fire fee and going forward on a motion by Supervisor Herrick with Supervisor Olson seconding.
The board also approved an intergovernmental agreement with Waukesha County on the municipal recycling dividend program after the agreement was reviewed; the motion to approve was made by Supervisor Herrick and seconded by Supervisor Olson. Chairman Klink appointed Supervisor John Krogmann to the Moose Lake District Board under Sec. 33.28(2)b, Wis. Stats., and the board approved that appointment on a Fleming/Olson motion.
During citizen comments earlier in the meeting, residents raised concerns about wake boating. Michael Schulz distributed informational materials and articles; Rick Zimbric described wake‑boating issues, and Monika Hartl cited a Town of Scott case related to wake boating.
DPW Director Griffin provided information about a small road project, and Clerk Donna Hann said the town's annual meeting will be held April 27, 2026. The board approved vouchers as presented and then adjourned; the meeting ended at 6:56 p.m.
