Board accepts EMPG, approves MDEQ application and opens $10 million money market account

The DeSoto County Board on May 4 approved several financial and grant actions. EMA Director Chris Olson requested acceptance of the FY2025 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) and the Board authorized the Board President to sign the award acceptance.
Grants Specialist Virginia Gonzalez asked for permission to apply to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for $52,908.08 covering July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027; the Board approved submitting the application and authorized signature.
Director of Finance Aimee Claire Holder presented the claims docket under MS Code and answered Board questions; the Board approved payment of items on the claims docket. The Board also approved a set of budget amendments across departments, notably a $237,592 increase to the Board Appointed Attorneys line, reallocation and increases in Facilities, Sheriff and other departmental lines, and adjustments in capital and operating accounts as detailed in the departmental schedules.
Finally, the Board approved opening a money market account with Guaranty Bank funded at $10,000,000 and authorized the Board President to sign. The Board voted to approve all items referenced above.
