Farmers Market Family Fun Day, kids'entrepreneur fair and Chamber events highlighted at commission meeting

Organizers at the July 9 East Haven Economic Development Commission meeting promoted several upcoming community events, including a large Farmers Market Family Fun Day this Sunday, an August kids' entrepreneur fair and multiple Chamber-hosted activities.

Amy Durvaugh, the presenter at the meeting, said the Farmers Market Family Fun Day will feature 44 booths and a lineup of activities including face painting, games, a 10 a.m. magic show by a visiting performer and live music, with vendors from East Haven and neighboring towns. She said a new produce vendor, Beckett's Farms of Glastonbury, plus shaved-ice and specialty vendors will be on site and that the market will stretch along Hemingway and Main Street toward the gazebo.

Durvaugh also described an Aug. 29 kids' entrepreneur fair on the East Haven Town Green, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where children will run small businesses and be eligible for prizes and judging; sponsors can sign up via the Chamber website or Facebook. Other Chamber events announced by commissioners include a Business After Hours networking event on July 21 at Village At Mariners Point and the 15th annual Lobsterpalooza on Aug. 19 at Anthony's Ocean View.

Practical details: organizers asked attendees to preregister for some events through the library or Chamber websites and provided an event contact (email chemingway@hagmanlibrary.org and phone (203) 468-3890 for the library-related interview event). The presenter said Hummel Hot Dogs will donate hot dogs for the July 14 library event.

What happens next: organizers will continue outreach and registration online; the commission noted these activities are open to residents and not limited to Chamber members.
