Residents press River Ridge CDD to fix Pinehurst drainage after ponding near monument

Resident Shari Perkins told the Board that a week after a street drain was plugged, “water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area,” and asked the Board to examine two drains on the left and right sides of the Pinehurst monument. She relayed that resident Fred Kronke had reported a retention pond that drains between River 8 and River 9 “appears to be non-functional; ponding is occurring and is nearly 1’ above the drain.”
A Board member asked whether there was video of water bubbling out of the drain; Perkins said she has photographs and will obtain video footage and provide it to CDD staff. The Board directed the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand.
District Engineer John Baker described how, before the inlet was plugged, water from one system was backing up and flowing through the pipe into a lower system. He said that with the inlet now plugged “there is no place for the water to go and it is essentially akin to a very tiny pond in a pipe,” and that resolving the issue “will likely require additional study.” Baker also noted that photography or video of the flooding would help staff resolve the problem.
Resident Ed Nowak asked about the outflow on the northern end of Pinehurst Greens Drive. District Manager Chuck Adams explained that the affected pipes run between private lots, across the golf course and into a ditch that runs down to the River Club and ultimately discharge to the Estero River.
Next steps recorded during the meeting included Ms. Perkins providing video evidence to CDD staff and the Board directing the district engineer to inspect the drains and report back. No formal repair authorization or funding decision was made at the July 23 meeting.
