Board hears lake maintenance update and drainage concerns after Tropical Storm Debbie

Bill Kurth, of Premier Lakes, told the River Ridge Board the lakes "appear to be in very good shape," that preserves and dry retention work are underway, and that crews removed fallen trees from the Florida Power & Light ditch and outfall prior to an impending tropical storm. He said repairs to the Lake H1-B nano-bubbler — which lost prime after being turned off — will be completed the following day, and Premier increased service frequency from quarterly to monthly for the rainy season.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs reported the MRI project to replace Pinehurst valley grate inlets is about 80% complete and that he will confirm the schedule for asphalt patching. Regarding post-storm conditions at Club property 21723 Oak Run, Krebs said the stormwater system flowed unobstructed though parts of the community received "almost 8 inches of rain in two or three days"; roads are designed for 5½ inches in 24 hours. He recommended The Club consider adding a drainage connection to E1-A so water can bypass pipes and inlets and go directly into the lake.
A resident reported standing water coming through a slab and possible mold in a unit. Krebs said he does not believe the standing water caused the resident’s problem because other units did not report similar issues and advised that Mr. Long be asked to comment; Chair Bob Schultz requested the item be placed on the next agenda for further review. Operations Manager Shane Willis and Mr. Alex Kurth will present proposals for the electrical portion of moving the compressor in Masters Lake.
Residents also raised requests for a downed tree at River 9 Catch Basin #134 and asked about stormwater permits; Krebs noted the district obtained permits to modify a few control structures after the developer broke the Pinehurst connection in 2022 when installing a second outfall to the FPL easement. Krebs said allowing fire trucks to draw lake water would require South Florida Water Management District approval and could harm lake plants and fish.
