Hebron mayor requests school assessment; Intel water use noted in quarterly update

Mayor Valerie Mockus reported June 26 that an assessment of the Hebron elementary school building will be completed by the end of July and provided to council so members can decide by the beginning of September whether to acquire the property. Village Administrator Jung‑Han Chen said the staff report will be available by the end of July.
Mockus also said she attended an Intel second-quarter update in which company representatives reported a 'net zero' water status and discussed plans that could use roughly 9 million gallons of water per day; she said she is continuing conversations to understand what that usage would mean for Hebron and noted a report-back will follow.
The mayor said a student presented on reducing single‑use plastics and encouraged sustainable practices; she also said she has been speaking with residents about a proposed sidewalk near Wooster Street and the Lake Forest cul‑de‑sac and is exploring an alternate alignment to present to council.
At the end of the meeting resident and zoning and land use lawyer David Hodge asked for a short recess to consult with attorneys about a procedural matter; council granted a five‑minute recess and later reconvened.
