Hebron council hears updates on water infrastructure, staffing and downtown maintenance

Village Administrator Jung-Han Chen and council members used the June 19 Combined Council Committees meeting to update residents on infrastructure and administrative items.
Mr. Chen said the Water/Wastewater Committee, which met June 10, discussed Licking County bulk water sales, a potential land donation and a hydraulic study; he added that the Well #7 contractor planned to install a pump the next day and that water testing may not begin until Friday, with coordination to be made with the City of Heath. Mr. Chen also announced the Public Works Committee will meet Monday, June 24 at 5:00 p.m.
Councilmember Annelle Porter praised the downtown flower displays, telling colleagues the "flowers in the downtown area are gorgeous." Mr. Chen said Utility Billing Coordinator Brigette Rose has requested to shift to part-time hours; Fiscal Officer Deborah Morgan said the village must create two part-time positions on the pay schedule and that Council will be asked to consider that change. Councilmembers discussed expected hours and the benefit of set schedules for residents.
Councilmember Kenney Nauer raised local infrastructure items: he asked whether the Public Works Department placed stop signs on 8th Street; Mr. Chen confirmed the village placed the signs after communicating with the Ohio Department of Transportation and said the village is awaiting a contractor schedule for the traffic signal. The council also discussed reinstalling a sign on the Canal Park shelter house and addressing sidewalk lights from U.S. 40 to North Street that are out.
Mayor Valerie Mockus said a representative from McDonald’s Insurance called with questions about two-hour downtown parking and about recent power outages; she relayed that American Electric Power (AEP) told her residents can sign up to receive alerts about planned outages in their area.
The meeting concluded with Council President Randy Wolf moving to adjourn at 6:30 p.m., seconded by Councilmember Kenney Nauer; a roll-call vote was unanimous in favor.
Next steps: Public Works Committee will meet June 24 to continue infrastructure discussions; Council will be asked at a future meeting to consider creating the proposed part-time utility billing positions.
