Regina Johnson, a resident of the Leelan Woods area and an attendee of TIRZ board meetings, used public comment time to urge the Mayor's Office and TIRZ boards to provide translators and better non-digital notice for board and CIP meetings so Brown, Hispanic and other residents without reliable online access can participate.
"My name is Regina Johnson, and I live in the Leelan Woods area," she told the committee, and said her community "does house brown, black, Asian, Persian, homeowners" and has people who need translators. She said a recent board meeting had no translator and asked for flyers, completion dates for a Chipwell CIP project and more outreach so residents can learn about projects and meetings without internet access.
Assistant Director Jennifer Curley advised residents to contact their council district offices for direct notice if they lack online access and noted the city posts meeting notices physically outside buildings in addition to electronic postings. The chair read a short reply from the mayor's office stating: "We are currently working on improving our protocols to better accommodate interpretation needs. We anticipate implementing these improvements in the coming months." The chair also noted the CIP project mentioned by the commenter was referred to her council member's office for follow-up.
No formal action was taken at the meeting beyond the referral to the district office; staff offered to follow up on notice and interpreter improvements.
