Selectmen authorize Town Administrator to execute State Bridge Aid documents for Bog Road project; discuss Sawyer Bridge condition

The Hillsborough Board of Selectmen authorized the Town Administrator to sign and execute documents necessary to implement activities on behalf of the Town under the State Bridge Aid and Federal Aid programs for State project #44305 and Federal project #XA005394.
Laura Buono told the board the bridge aid application had been filed several years ago and that work on the Bog Road over Sanborn Road project is scheduled to begin in 2028. She said the project is federally funded at approximately 80% of the cost.
Separately, Buono reviewed a 2003 temporary encroachment agreement for Sawyer Bridge that put maintenance responsibility with the State; the State is pursuing dissolution of that agreement and the town has been maintaining the adjacent grassy area. The board was told the bridge is not safe to walk on and a keystone is missing. Selectman Pelletier suggested obtaining repair pricing and placing a warrant article on the March ballot to let voters decide whether to fund repairs.
The board voted to authorize staff to proceed with necessary Bridge Aid paperwork and directed Buono to follow up with the State and obtain cost estimates for possible local repair funding of Sawyer Bridge.
