Hillsborough commission hears TIF plan for water extension, EDA grant pursuit

Mike Tardiff of the Central New Hampshire Regional Planning Commission briefed the Town of Hillsborough Water & Sewer Commission on a proposed TIF plan and options for extending water from the existing system to the project area. Commissioners received copies of previously approved development plans and an NHDES review response that identified about 22 items that must be addressed before development can proceed.
Commissioner Peter Mellen asked about the status of a feasibility study and whether the Board of Selectmen had formally committed. Tardiff said there had been no formal Selectmen vote to date but Town Administrator Laura Buono indicated the Selectmen are in support. Tardiff said the project team is moving forward with an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant application and that he will need letters of support from the town for the funding match; he said he will return to the Commission as the grant process advances.
The briefing did not include a formal feasibility vote or a schedule for the study; Commissioners asked that staff and the project team continue coordination with NHDES and return with answers to the review items and any funding commitments.
Next steps: the project team will pursue the EDA grant, collect required letters of support for the local match, and follow up with the Commission on the NHDES review items and feasibility work.
