Wastewater operator urges engineering help to replace aging blowers at Hillsborough plant

Paul Dutton, the Town of Hillsborough wastewater operator, told the Water & Sewer Commission on Nov. 26 that he has been unable to locate replacement blowers that would fit the wastewater facility's existing configurations and recommended engaging an engineering consultant to identify suitable options.
Commissioner Dana Clow asked staff to compile a package of specifications and configuration details on the current blowers to provide to potential consultants or vendors. Dutton said he will forward the materials he has exchanged with two blower vendors to the commissioners; Commissioner Dave Lewis said he would consult counterparts in other communities and look into possible engineering consultants to review replacement options.
The commission also reviewed a sludge study completed by RCS Environmental LLC; Dutton said he is expecting a proposal from RCS to perform recommended repairs but had not received it as of the meeting. Commissioners agreed to resume discussion when the engineering proposals and vendor information are available.
No formal vote or procurement decision was taken at the meeting; commissioners described next steps as gathering technical information and obtaining consultant or vendor proposals for future consideration.
