Caseville council approves $1.65 million in invoices, OKs events and appoints fire-board member

The Caseville City Council on Sept. 8 approved invoices and budget items totaling $1,652,624.47 and took several event and personnel actions at a meeting held at Caseville City Hall.
Mayor Pro Tem Kenneth Rathje called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and the council, with Jerald Ignash, John Tait, Jeff Hervert and Darin Sprague present, moved quickly through procedural items. Councilor Darin Sprague moved to set the agenda and later, with Sprague as mover and John Tait as second, the council approved Resolution #2025-48 to pay invoices presented and related budget items totaling $1,652,624.47; the roll-call vote was 4-0. The council also approved the Aug. 4 meeting minutes with a correction to the spelling of Michael Muscat’s name.
The council approved several event requests on the consent calendar. Sprague moved and Hervert seconded approval for the Caseville Historical Society’s car show on Sept. 20, 2025, which will close the street near the Prospect and Ash intersection from about 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the society requested barricades and the council approved the request 4-0. The council debated a Chamber of Commerce request to allow food trucks at the Witches Walk: an initial motion to permit four trucks failed on a 2-2 vote (Councilors Jerald Ignash and John Tait voted no). After an alternative proposal for two trucks was withdrawn, the council approved a resolution permitting three food trucks (Resolution #2025-49) by roll-call, 4-0.
Councilors also approved administrative items: a motion carried to hold the Oct. 13, 2025 council meeting at the Caseville Historical Building, and the council voted to appoint Michael Power to the Caseville Area Fire Protection Association Board, term expiring August 2031 (motion by Sprague, second by Tait; vote 4-0).
City Manager Jamie Learman reported that absentee ballot applications were mailed for the Nov. 4 election, and the council filed written reports received from several advisory bodies. The meeting ended at 5:52 p.m.
