Lake Park to replace fireworks with $16,000 laser light show amid Level 1 drought notice

At its May 5 meeting the Lake Park City Council discussed alternatives to traditional fireworks for the July 4 celebration in light of recent wildfires and an Environmental Protection Department Level 1 Drought Response for the area.
Council Member Zach Fletcher moved to contract with Laser Light Company for a Small laser show package at a cost of $16,000; Council Member Arthur Keckley seconded the motion and it passed unanimously, 4-0. The motion noted that generators were not included in the vendor price.
City Clerk Lisa Johnson also informed the council that the EPD had issued a Level 1 Drought Response, requiring publication of conservation guidance and dissemination of information to residents. Council direction included preparing the required public notices and materials explaining voluntary conservation measures.
The council discussed vendor availability for the laser show (limited openings) but recorded no public opposition at the meeting.
