Thomasville ABC Board Approves Minutes, Reviews Sales and Weighs Cash-Management Change

At its March 25 meeting, the Thomasville ABC Board handled routine administrative business, approved minutes and payroll reports, and reviewed store performance and staffing.
Chairman Cran Plyler moved to approve the February 20, 2025 minutes; Neal Grimes seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to approve. Payroll reports for the pay periods ending March 1 and March 15, 2025, were also approved. The March law enforcement report was received and accepted with no incidents recorded.
Store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe reported February sales fell 11.46%, larger than the statewide decline of 6.59%, but said year-to-date sales and net profit remain up. Lowe noted weekly sales continue to average over $100,000, and the comparative balance sheet shows increased inventory and higher net profit for the month and year-to-date. No budget amendments were proposed.
Lowe and Ms. Shook reported that at a recent supervisors conference they were introduced to the NC Capital Management Trust as an alternative to the store——s current Fidelity money-market account. The trust——s representative is scheduled to visit the store April 11 for further discussion. Lowe said she will also request proposals from other vendors for employee benefits because the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) will no longer offer the current benefits option after the fiscal year ends June 30, 2025.
Lowe said she is hiring Octavious Kennedy as a part-time employee; that will bring staffing to six full-time and five part-time employees. The meeting adjourned and the board scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, April 15.
