Thomasville amends sale of 16 Trade Street, approves advisory-board appointments

Following a closed session for real estate and personnel matters, the Thomasville City Council returned to open session and approved an amendment to the sale contract for 16 Trade Street. Real Estate Committee Chair and Council Member JacQuez Johnson moved to give the buyer an $80,000 credit at closing for repairs and to require the City to install a dedicated water/sewer tap and a separate water-suppression tap; Council Member Doug Hunt seconded and the motion passed unanimously (7-0). The minutes state that no action was taken during the closed session itself; the contract amendment was made in open session after the meeting returned to public view.
Council Member D. Hunter Thrift moved, and Council Member Scott Styers seconded, a slate of advisory-board appointments. Approved appointments included Cran Plyler to the ABC Board; Carol Brown, Olivia Ilardi, Molly Lassiter, Paula Peters, Myra Scott Gray and David Stanley to Beautification; Fred Bookman, Yvette Hicks, Keith Tobin and Bradley White to the Golf Advisory Board; Steve Teglas and Maddie Thrift to the Historic Preservation Commission; Oran Jefferies, Eric Kuppel and Chris Myrick to the Board of Planning and Adjustment; Kathleen Sarette to Recreation; and Tommy Ballard, Gloria Brinkley, Joe Gray Sr. and Dana Lomba to Tourism. Mayor York also swore in a new police officer and reappointed Ron Richardson to another term on the Housing Authority during the mayor’s report.
The amendment to the 16 Trade Street sale requires staff follow-up to schedule the credited repairs and to coordinate installation of the required taps prior to closing. The Council recorded unanimous votes on the amendment and on the appointment motions.
