Thomasville ABC Board approves January minutes, reports sales up 9.4%; board member resigns

At its Feb. 20 meeting, the Thomasville ABC Board approved Jan. 21 minutes and payrolls, reviewed financial reports showing sales up about 9.4%, heard store operations and staffing updates from General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe, and accepted the resignation of board member Roger Bryant; next meeting set for March 25, 2025.
The Thomasville ABC Board met Feb. 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the store at 1144 Randolph Street. Chairman Cran Plyler presided; Secretary/Treasurer Neal Grimes, Board Member Roger Bryant and Store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe were present.
The board approved the minutes of the Jan. 21, 2025 meeting on a motion by Roger Bryant, seconded by Cran Plyler; the motion was recorded as unanimous. Payrolls for the pay periods ending Jan. 18, Feb. 1 and Feb. 15, 2025 were also approved. The board received and accepted the February law enforcement report.
The board's sales report showed February sales were up about 9.4% compared with a roughly 0.2% statewide increase; the six-week average for January and February to date was $106,033. The board reviewed comparative financial statements for January 2025 and found no material variances requiring budget amendments.
Store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe reported that new LED lights are being installed at the front of the store to match recent lighting upgrades. Lowe said cycle-count inventories continued to be an effective internal control; this month's discrepancies totaled $4.27. Lowe also said a Mr. Mike Hall has contacted the store offering paid presentations about drug- and alcohol-abuse prevention for the Thomasville School System and Davidson County Schools; she plans to check references and pricing and will follow up after attending the ABC Supervisor Conference.
Lowe noted the store's travel policy has not been updated to align with local municipal policy; she said she will consult with the state ABC auditor about how to correct it in light of the upcoming state ABC audit (referenced in the Jan. 21 minutes). The board noted the State ABC audit scheduled for Feb. 26, 2025 and that audit results are included in their materials.
During routine business, Board Member Roger Bryant said he needed to resign from the ABC Board for health reasons; the board expressed regret and offered best wishes. The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The auditor, Mr. Edwin Strickland, is expected to attend that meeting to review the audit reports.
The meeting was adjourned until March 25, 2025.
