Thomasville ABC Board notified of state audit; December sales dip 3.29%

Thomasville — The Thomasville ABC Board on Jan. 21 was notified a state ABC Commission audit will take place at the store on Feb. 26, 2025, and heard that December sales were down 3.29% from a year earlier.
Chairman Cran Plyler called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. at the store on 1144 Randolph Street. Store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe presented a letter from Edwin Strictland, Program Analyst/Board Auditor with the state ABC Commission, announcing the upcoming store visit and board audit.
The board received and accepted the monthly law enforcement report for December 2024 and a detailed report from Fairgrove Family Resource Center on its 2024 4QE status and distribution of drug- and alcohol-related funds. The minutes record the board is “very impressed with their programs and accountability.”
Lowe reviewed sales figures, saying December 2024 sales were down 3.29% year-over-year while statewide sales rose 0.91%. She told the board that December 2023 was a monthly record and attributed that spike to the COVID period; she also reported a seven-week Dec.–Jan. average of $138,706 and cautioned that a traditionally "dry January" and the end of major drinking holidays should moderate sales toward the store’s typical range.
The board’s comparative balance sheet shows substantial cash, money-market holdings and inventory; the comparative income statement shows sales up $133,000 year-to-date and net profit increased, and Lowe said no budget amendments are necessary at this time. Board members briefly discussed the potential effects of proposed government trade tariffs on imports, noting possible impacts to Canadian whiskey and Scotch.
The board approved routine items including the Dec. 11 minutes and payrolls for the week ending Dec. 21, 2024, along with a Christmas bonus dated Jan. 4, 2025. Motions on those items were recorded as approved unanimously.
