Atlantic Beach reports strong July 4 parking revenue; staff to propose fee schedule changes

Town Manager John O'Daniel reported parking and enforcement statistics and proposed fee adjustments at the July 10 work session. Paid parking receipts for the July 4 weekend were reported as $9,300 on Friday, $10,600 on Saturday and $6,600 on Sunday. O'Daniel said the town issued 24 tickets for failure to pay, 18 tickets for creating parking spots in non‑designated areas, and four tickets for violations in the employee lot. He reported the employee parking lot is underutilized, typically hosting 8–11 vehicles out of 25–26 spaces, and staff will reassess the employee parking program at the end of the season.
O'Daniel said staff will present an amendment to the Fee Schedule at the next meeting to increase the officer assistance rate at events from $35 to $50 per hour, and to make minor adjustments to concession/souvenir pricing and CAMA permit fees.
Under councilmember comments, Mayor Danny Navey relayed a resident’s request for a No Parking sign on Dunes Avenue after yard damage; council found ad hoc sign installation inappropriate and recommended the resident call police when incidents occur so officers can enforce right‑of‑way violations. Councilmember Joseph Starling also relayed a citizen request to paint a STOP marking at Tryon Street and Money Island; no action was taken at the session.
The meeting adjourned at 10:52 a.m.; the minutes were later approved at the August 25, 2025 council meeting.
