Marc Schulze, the town's Public Works Director, told the council the Dredging Committee recommended dredging the Causeway Channel at marker 5A, the Money Island Channel at day marker 2, the Royal Channel and the New Causeway Channel. He said staff’s pre-dredge survey estimates the effort at about 2,000 cubic yards.
“Staff has identified those channels for annual maintenance dredging via a pre-dredge survey, which was approved and recommended by the Dredging Committee,” Schulze said.
Councilmember Joey Dean moved to approve Resolution 25-04-01, described in council materials as a resolution committing funds for the Water Resources Development Project Grant for channel dredging. Mayor Pro Tem Austin Waters seconded the motion; the vote was 4-0 in favor.
The resolution authorizes Public Services to apply for the grant; if awarded, the program would combine the town’s $50,000 commitment with a $150,000 state award for a total project budget of $200,000. The council did not specify a construction schedule in the meeting minutes.
