The Peabody City Council on July 9 approved a special permit allowing Danvers Family Doctors to use 16 Bourbon Street, Unit C, for a family‑practice medical office.
Dr. Subroofa Bhattacharyat, who identified herself as the physician who owns and operates the practice, described its 25‑year history and said the move provides more space and continuity for eventual succession to a nurse practitioner. She said the practice would not be sold to a corporate owner and emphasized the desire to preserve the practice's legacy.
Councilors asked a few clarifying questions, observed that neighbors had been contacted and that traffic impacts appeared minimal, and then moved to close the public hearing. The council voted by roll call to approve the special permit under the zoning sections cited in the public notice.
The permit approval is subject to standard filing and permitting steps with the planning and building departments. Dr. Bhattacharyat thanked the council for approval and said the office would continue to serve patients in the same style of practice.
The clerk will record the special permit approval and the planning department will notify the applicant of next steps for occupancy and permit compliance.
