Public Utilities Director Morgan Huffman told the Public Services Committee the lowest bid on the Rains Road Pump Station tabulation was $6,775,345 and that additional funding had been secured to cover the amount. Huffman requested the committee vote on a Resolution for tentative award approval to Gilbert Engineering Company of Statesville and noted Gilbert had completed projects across the state.
Huffman explained the procurement involved two rounds of bidding: the first round drew only two bidders (insufficient to open), and a second round attracted four bidders with a fifth attending as an observer. He said the top two bids were separated by only $3,900. Committee Member Neal Grimes moved to send the Resolution to award the contract to Gilbert Engineering to Briefing; Vice Chairperson D. Hunter Thrift seconded.
The committee forwarded the resolution to Briefing for final action on the tentative award.
