Thomasville committee forwards $364,000 stream-restoration grant awards to briefing

Emergency Director Sam Olshinski told the Personnel/Finance Committee that Thomasville had received a Stream Restoration and Stream Bank Stabilization (StRAP) grant totaling approximately $364,000, with $64,000 earmarked for debris removal and $300,000 for stream bank stabilization. He said $54,000 of the grant is administrative fees.
Olshinski reported the debris removal contract was awarded to Zulu Marine of Savannah and the stream bank stabilization contract to Resource Environmental Solutions (RES) of Raleigh, selected on qualifications. He corrected an earlier figure and said the city's in-kind match is $10,000 (not $25,000). Council Member Styers asked about the location of debris removal; Olshinski identified Hamby Creek between the bridge and Fisher Ferry. Committee Member Styers moved to send the award to Briefing and Committee Member Williams seconded.
The action was forwarded to Briefing for final consideration.
