Thomasville committee advances $1.08 million street-resurfacing budget amendment for briefing

The Personnel/Finance Committee on Jan. 7 voted to send a budget amendment to Briefing that would fund the citystreet resurfacing contract of $1,075,460.
Finance Director Avant presented the amendment and said funding sources include $246,398 from tag fee revenue, $236,341 from a one-cent tax set-aside and $50,000 from the Powell Bill reserve, along with insurance proceeds for a police Chevrolet Tahoe and a public works garbage truck and $20,000 from a North Carolina Amateur Sports grant for recreation. Council Member Scott Styers asked whether tag fee revenue could be used for sidewalks; Avant confirmed it could.
City Manager Michael Brandt told the committee that two items referenced in the amendment had not yet been approved elsewhere on the agenda, so the amendment was made contingent on those later approvals. Committee Member Payton Williams moved to send the amendment to Briefing; Committee Member Scott Styers seconded the motion.
No formal policy decision was made at the meeting; forwarding the amendment to Briefing allows the council to consider final approval once remaining items are resolved.
