Jefferson to pursue Central Paving for Airport Road; Whitefield floated lower-cost grading option

The Select Board reviewed a response from the Whitefield Select Board regarding a Central Paving quote for a patch on Airport Road and voted to proceed with Central Paving repairs while seeking a contribution from Whitefield.
Highway supervisor Mike Kenison briefed the board: Whitefield suggested alternating a grader shim approach that could reduce Jefferson’s per‑ton cost to about $86 instead of the quoted $200 per ton if the two towns coordinate; Whitefield is still calculating an appropriate percentage of payment. Jefferson instructed Kenison to move forward with Central Paving; after repairs Jefferson will request Whitefield’s share of the estimated 75% cost. If Whitefield declines, Jefferson will pursue a Plan B using local partners including Presby Plastic, Presby Transportation and the Whitefield Power Plant.
The board also asked Kenison to measure a building setback on Presidential Highway (pending) and to continue to track hauling schedules for Transfer Station logistics.
No formal intergovernmental cost‑sharing agreement was signed at the meeting; the board authorized the town to proceed with the Central Paving contractor and to pursue reimbursement or an alternative plan if Whitefield does not agree to cost sharing.
