Select Board approves building permits, tent permits for Waumbek Partners and other routine business

At its Sept. 9 meeting the Town of Jefferson Select Board approved several building permits and completed routine administrative business.

Selectman Kevin Meehan moved and Selectman Norman Brown seconded approval of a building permit for Derek and Lisa Snowman to construct a 26-by-20-foot additional bay on an existing garage at 99 Presidential Highway; the motion passed unanimously. The board also approved two tent permits for Waumbek Partners — a 44-foot round tent and a 44-by-83-foot tent at Map 8, Lot 29 — after motions by Meehan and seconds by Brown; both motions passed unanimously.

The board reviewed a complaint about 7 Old Cherry Mountain Road alleging a structure with tarps had been built on the backside of a pond without a building permit on file. Administrative Assistant Amanda Simino reported there was no permit on file; the board directed staff to send a letter to the property owner.

Other items handled during the meeting included review and initials on unpaid bills and deposit/GL statements for Sept. 16 and Aug. 27 documents, review of the August ICS and general statements, signing four cemetery deeds totaling six lots, and noting a DMV audit. The board also discussed an outstanding under-payment issue with Central Paving at the Jefferson Community Center and, following a conversation between Selectman Meehan and Ed Stanley, left the matter as is for now.

Fire Chief Chris Milligan raised a question about promotional wage increases under the town's new pay structure; the Select Board agreed that a promoted officer should receive a $1.00 hourly increase effective on the day of promotion. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
