Volunteers propose three-year landscaping plan for Community Center; board asks for costs and materials list

Volunteers with Green Up Jefferson proposed a three-year landscaping plan for the Jefferson Community Center grounds at the Select Board meeting on Sept. 23.
Liz Milligan and Elenor Birard outlined plans for raised beds under the building’s large front windows, a trellis at the corner near the historical society, and a raised bed beneath the Community Center sign. The Select Board said the concept was acceptable but asked the volunteers to provide a materials and cost list and to choose rot-resistant materials (the minutes note a suggestion of PVC lumber). The board also asked the volunteers to delay certain work until the town’s open bid process to replace flashing on the Community Center building is completed.
Elenor Birard also called attention to weather-faded, unstable “Welcome to Jefferson” signs; the board asked highway staff to inspect and repair the signs as needed.
