Town Highway Department member Mike Kenison told the Select Board Sept. 9 that Airport Road has suffered damage consistent with heavy trucks using the road and recommended posting a 6-ton weight limit to deter Mack trucks. "6 tons would probably be best," Kenison said. The board asked Kenison to develop a formal posting motion for the next meeting.
Kenison said crews had already installed signage on Airport Road and temporarily filled holes pending a repair. He reported that an initial, informal estimate to patch the affected area would be approximately $13,000 to $15,000; he committed to providing a formal estimate at the board's next meeting.
The board directed Selectman Norman Brown to notify the local power plant and the Presby (entities mentioned by the board) about the situation before the next meeting. Separately, Kenison said one wall at the Transfer Station should be repaired before the roof is replaced; he will measure the wall and Amanda Simino will post that repair for bid. The board received an additional bid for the Transfer Station roof but agreed to postpone roof work until the wall is addressed.
Amanda Simino also updated the board on the town's Hazard Mitigation Plan process. She said she and June Garneau are awaiting confirmation from the state emergency management office (HSEM) on a grant and recommended assembling a local HMP team now so the town is ready should state approval arrive.
