The Town of Jefferson Select Board voted unanimously Sept. 9 to terminate the employment of Robert Thompson, effective at the close of business on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024. Selectman Norman Brown moved the termination; Selectman Kevin Meehan seconded, and the motion passed with no further discussion.
The board had met in a non-public session under RSA 91-A:3 II (a) beginning at 6:35 p.m. and later voted to seal the non-public minutes, citing that the information discussed "could adversely affect the reputation of any person other than a member of the Select Board." The roll-call votes recorded at the time the board entered non-public and when they voted to seal were Kevin Meehan "Aye," Norman Brown "Aye," and Terri Larcomb "Aye."
No public input was recorded during the meeting. Minutes and standard administrative items — including approval of the Aug. 27, 2024 minutes, payroll for Sept. 1, 2, 3 and 9, and accounts payable for Sept. 2 and 9 — were handled earlier in the session and approved by unanimous vote.
The board did not provide additional detail in public about the reasons for the personnel action; because the Select Board voted to seal the non-public session, the content of that discussion and any supporting documentation are not part of the public record. The termination is effective as stated at the close of business on Sept. 11, 2024.
