Jefferson Select Board approves payroll, two building permits and authorizes culvert purchase

At its Aug. 12 meeting the Jefferson Select Board approved minutes, payroll and accounts payable, signed two building permits, and authorized the Highway Department to purchase a $469.47 culvert for Chambers Road; the board also confirmed a vacant Town Moderator position under RSA 669:62.
The Jefferson Select Board on Aug. 12 voted unanimously to approve the July 29 meeting minutes, payroll for Aug. 5 and 12, and accounts payable for the same pay periods, and signed two building permits.
Selectman Kevin Meehan moved to approve the minutes, payroll and accounts payable; Selectman Norman Brown seconded and each motion passed on roll-call votes (Meehan, Brown, Larcomb "Aye"). The board signed a building permit for George Cook to construct a 21-foot by 24-foot by 9-foot hay barn at Map 10 Lot 51 and approved a permit for Edward and Roxanne Stanley to build a 30-foot by 40-foot detached garage with a 10-foot by 40-foot carport at 142 Presidential Highway.
The board also authorized the Highway Department to purchase a replacement culvert for Chambers Road after Mike Kenison presented a $469.47 quote from Arrow Central. Kenison said the culvert purchase is intended to address storm-related washouts and help drainage; he will proceed with the purchase as the board approved.
Administrative Assistant Amanda Simino told the board she had researched a driveway permit request for the Neumanns: a 1991 subdivision of Old Cherry Mountain Road had been approved with a right of way, and a 2023 lot-line adjustment likewise referenced a right of way. Simino handed the driveway permit to Kenison so he can inspect the proposed driveway location and confirm site suitability.
During other business the board reviewed and initialed unpaid bills for Aug. 19, deposits and general ledger entries for July, and the July 2024 General Fund and ICS statements, and signed a warrant for a land-use change on the Bronson property and a letter regarding a short-term rental at 100 North Road.
Amanda Simino reported that, because Town Moderator Jason Call did not take the oath within six days of Town Meeting, the Moderator position is currently vacant under RSA 669:62; if Call wishes to serve he must be appointed by the Supervisors of the Checklist, otherwise the Supervisors must appoint a new moderator prior to the state primary in September. Selectman Kevin Meehan said he will speak with Call about his intent.
The meeting adjourned at 8:18 p.m. The next Select Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
