Consultants brief EDA on site-ranking tool; next step is Board of Supervisors briefing

Timmons consultants presented a countywide property-ranking tool and recommended presenting the findings to the Board of Supervisors before the EDA decides whether to proceed to phase two of the site study.
Timmons consultants Joe Hines, Mac McKenzie, Clay Cundiff and Leandra Zavacky told the King and Queen County Economic Development Authority on Sept. 5 that they have developed a tool to identify the top 10 parcels for development across the county. The tool scores properties using criteria that include proximity to utilities and highways, topography, parcel size and ownership, the consultants said.
The EDA moved the Timmons presentation to the start of the meeting. Chairman George Longest and members heard a summary of the process undertaken so far and what the next steps would be. The consultants said the ranked list is intended to help the county prioritize parcels most suitable for targeted business recruitment and infrastructure planning.
EDA members discussed next steps and were told Timmons will present the study’s findings to the Board of Supervisors prior to any decision on whether the EDA should proceed to phase two of the study. No formal vote to move forward on phase two was recorded at the meeting.
The presentation was introduced early in the agenda and followed by a closed-session discussion that the EDA later certified had stayed within the topics announced for the closed meeting. The EDA will consider the consultants’ recommendations and the Board of Supervisors’ response before making further commitments on study expansion or site-preparation work.
