The King and Queen County Electoral Board met at the Office of the General Registrar in King and Queen Court House on Nov. 12, 2024, and unanimously approved the minutes of the Oct. 7 meeting while reviewing preparations for imminent Risk‑Limiting Audits and noting routine equipment maintenance.
The approval of Oct. 7, 2024 minutes concluded with unanimous consent after minimal modifications, according to the meeting record signed by Secretary Martha Edwards Hart. That administrative action was followed by a review of the election calendar and procedures ahead of expected audits.
The board discussed Risk‑Limiting Audit (RLA) preparations and calendar items reported by General Registrar Diane C. Klausen. According to the minutes, the State Board of Elections will notify the local general registrar on Monday, Nov. 18, 2024 of the randomly selected congressional district to be audited. The minutes list a scheduled RLA for the U.S. Senate race at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, and RLA work on the U.S. congressional district race on Thursday, Nov. 21 and Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.
Klausen and the board reviewed operational items from the Nov. 2024 General Election, including accessibility, parking, coordination with DMV, voting equipment performance, security arrangements, traffic flow at polling places and USPS handling of ballots. The minutes record that one Touch Writer voting device will be sent away for maintenance and calibration.
The General Registrar also recorded that she will present a quarterly report to the King & Queen County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024. Board members discussed early planning for the 2025–26 budget and noted that some voting equipment purchased in 2016 is beginning to require repairs; the minutes mention the potential availability of new HART voting equipment and updated security software as items to consider in future budget planning.
The board scheduled its next meeting for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024. The meeting was called to order by Chair Stuart Swilley at 11:19 a.m. and adjourned at 12:00 noon.
The minutes were submitted by Secretary Martha Edwards Hart.
