King and Queen EDA approves corrected Hub 33 lease, amends bylaws on electronic participation

The King and Queen County Economic Development Authority approved a corrected lease for Hub 33 and amended its bylaws on electronic meeting participation during a Jan. 27, 2025, joint meeting with the Board of Supervisors.

The actions came at a meeting called to order by Chairman George Longest at 6:10 p.m. in the King and Queen County Administration Building. Staff member Vivian Seay provided updated lease documents that corrected the Hub 33 address from Shacklefords to Mattaponi. Member Plunard Robinson moved to approve the revised lease; Member Melinda Coleman seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

The vote cleared a technical error in the lease's address, ensuring the county's records match the property's correct location.

Ms. Seay also reviewed a recent amendment the EDA had made to its bylaws governing participation in meetings by electronic means to reflect changes by the General Assembly. After adoption officials discovered an incorrect numeric limit on the number of meetings allowed by electronic participation and presented a corrective amendment. Member Melinda Coleman moved to approve the bylaws correction; Member Joseph McGuire seconded the motion, which the board approved unanimously. Chairman Longest introduced the EDA members present and provided background on the authority's membership before the joint discussion with the Board of Supervisors. The stated purpose of the joint meeting was to update the supervisors on a site study, report on activities by the EDA and the Director of Economic Development, and to discuss and set priorities for both boards for the coming year.
