LBWID outlines tree replacements, beach maintenance and a new resident request form

Lake Barcroft Water Improvement District operations staff briefed trustees on maintenance, community programs and communications plans, and the board agreed to a new written-request process for resident service requests.
Staff reported one large oak tree was removed at 6314 Cavalier Corr; two additional large oaks remain to be removed at 3427 Greentree Drive. Crews mowed and weed-whacked the western dam slope to ensure gate access and removed vine overgrowth around Beach 3’s decanting basin. Staff also repaired the gate at the Beach 2 parking lot in support of Lake Barcroft Association activities. Weekly beach and lake cleanup occurs every Friday morning, and staff said a few more resident dredge requests remain pending.
Because informal requests sometimes created confusion over scope and timing, trustees and staff agreed to require written requests to clarify work needed, allow cost estimates, set timing, prioritize tasks and enable tracking. Tim Cogswell and Jim Simonson will draft a request form for group review.
Staff said a crew from Bailey’s Crossroads Fire Department toured the dam and LBWID compound to review access points; staff suggested Tim and Kevin H co-author a newsletter article describing LBWID/LBA coordination with Fairfax County Fire Department.
On community programming, the Native Tree Replacement Program will accept applications from July 15 to July 31, with applicant notifications by Aug. 31 and planting scheduled late September through mid-October. Staff noted an average per-tree cost increase from $103.63 in 2024 to $118.00 in 2025 and said the district offers eight native tree types.
The LBWID Open House is set for Sept. 20, 10 a.m.–1 p.m., and LBA LakeFest will take place the evening of Sept. 20; staff proposed a video tour of the dam house to speed on-site tours. Staff reminded trustees of newsletter deadlines and planned upcoming articles.
