The Lake Barcroft Watershed Improvement District said it will hold a community information meeting on Sunday, Feb. 23, to present an armoring design concept for the East and West dam embankments and the district's proposed funding strategy.
The LBWID operations director told the planning meeting on Jan. 9 that engineering firm WRA has developed scenarios showing the embankment impact areas and that staff will meet with WRA next week for a progress briefing. The presentation on Feb. 23 will show the design outline and explain how the project would be funded.
The district reported it submitted additional information requested by FEMA for a second Dam Safety Grant and described parallel state grant steps with the Department of Conservation and Recreation. The operations director said state funding tied to the FEMA application has been delayed, but the FEMA submission itself was made on time.
No formal vote or decision on final designs or financing was recorded at the planning meeting. The operations director characterized the Feb. 23 meeting as an information session to present designs and funding options and to gather community input before any procurement or construction steps.
Next steps listed by staff include the internal WRA briefing, public presentation on Feb. 23, and continued grant coordination with FEMA and state agencies. The district did not announce any construction start dates at the meeting.
