Lake Barcroft Water Improvement District trustees on July 31 approved a Dam Monitoring and Response Standard Operating Policy and directed staff to update the Lake Barcroft Dam Emergency Action Plan and schedule training for staff and trustees.
The action followed presentation of preliminary Rain-On-Grid upstream modeling done by GKY on July 27, which staff reported produced results within 0.1% of the older ACE 100-year flood model. Based on those results, trustees agreed to proceed with updated downstream modeling and to advance WRA’s conceptual engineering plan for east and west embankment armoring. The trustees also agreed to schedule a meeting with the owners of 6200 Lakeview Drive to brief them on the project.
Staff told trustees they are awaiting a Dam Safety Grant approval package from DCR; there was no update reported on the FEMA Hazard Mitigation grant (FEMA-HHDP). The district said it will incorporate the modeling and engineering work into the revised Emergency Action Plan and use the scheduled training to familiarize staff and trustees with monitoring and response procedures.
