Kings Park/Kings Glen PTA presents nominating slate; principals report STEAM activities, SOL dates

Jen Argenta, listed on the nominating slate as president, called the Kings Park/Kings Glen PTA General Membership Meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. and opened a meeting that included principals’ reports, officer updates and a presentation of the election slate for May 20.
Principal Dotty Lin reported for Kings Park that the school recognized military-connected students with Purple Up activities, continued STEAM programming (a STEAM night, STEAM learning in the Strategies Lab and a STEAM open house) and will host local author-illustrator Susan Fliess with PTA funds. Lin said students enjoyed recent field trips (including Huntley Meadows and the American History Museum) and that Kings Park’s chronic absenteeism rate is 6 percent. She also noted that family input for class placements is due May 5 and that Reading SOL tests are scheduled for May 6 and Math SOL tests for May 14.
Principal Christine Ritter relayed Kings Glen updates: a Google form for class-placement input is due May 1; testing will occur May 5–7 with students testing in their current grade; Newsies proved successful; 6th graders will visit the Udvar-Hazy Museum; and both schools will have vestibule construction this summer with camera installation.
The PTA presented a nominating slate for the May 20 elections: Jen Argenta for president; Emily French for secretary; Kristin Hopkins for treasurer; Sarah Maccubbin-Tremper for vice president, fundraising; Bethany Portock for vice president, events; and Lisley Anco for vice president, education & community outreach. The slate was announced to members; no vote on the slate is recorded in the minutes.
Officer reports covered upcoming events and operational items. Jen Argenta said kindergarten supply kits are complete and reminded members that the final PTA meeting and elections will be May 20. Vice President for Events Bethany Portock announced a Glow Dance scheduled for Friday, planning for Staff Appreciation Week (theme: books), and a Kings Park vs. Kings Glen kickball game on May 8 at Kings Glen. Vice President for Fundraising Sarah Maccubbin-Tremper said yearbooks will be distributed in late May or early June and instructed families to pay if they wish to keep copies; unclaimed books should be returned to school. VP Education & Community Outreach Lisley Anco reported three after-school activities at each school, noted a theater class cancellation at Kings Glen, and requested volunteers for the Earth Day festival on April 22 at Kings Park.
Treasurer Eric DeTurk reviewed expenditures from the school support line (class trips, reading initiatives, specialist and team support), said two large color-copy reimbursements have been paid and that a line item will be created for future similar payments, and reported that the KGES outdoor electronic sign is fully funded and expected to be installed before the next school year. DeTurk also said the board will discuss lowering membership dues for next year because current dues “are greater than what is required.”
A motion to approve the minutes from the February 3, 2026 meeting was made by Bethany Portock and seconded by Sarah Tremper; the minutes were approved as written. President Jen Argenta adjourned the meeting at 7:15 p.m. The next KPKG PTA General Membership Meeting is scheduled for May 21, 2026.
