Residents and groups brief council on museum tours, events, golf course and baseball

Several members of the public addressed the council during the public-comment period.
Christian New, executive director of the Mitchell Indigenous Archaeological Site and Museum, thanked the council for a city subsidy grant that the museum board matched dollar-for-dollar. He said school tours have grown sharply (808 students in 2024; 1,403 last year; 1,100 so far this year, with another 500 to 600 expected) and described digitization and QR-code improvements to the visitor experience.
Elizabeth Mitchell Mays thanked city departments for support of First Friday (July 3) and promoted upcoming events including the Palace City pre-surge party on Aug. 6 and Dakota Fest. Brandon Sigmond told council members Lakeview Golf Course "makes over six figures a year" and urged continued investment in course maintenance and programming. Bob Habiger, representing the Independence Baseball League, said his organization plans to relocate a franchise to Mitchell and will play an exhibition at Hyde Stadium.
Council thanked commenters and noted the topics for follow-up where relevant.
