Brentwood to try three-month county composting pilot, town will provide outreach

Town Administrator Dorothy Washington said the county is offering Brentwood a three-month, no-cost pilot to test curbside and collection-site composting and will provide bins and a county representative to lead a kickoff workshop.
The announcement came at the Feb. 3 work session of the Barrington Council of Brentwood, where Washington said the county asked only that the town run public-education outreach, including flyers explaining what can be composted, what lining bags work and a resident workshop. “They are willing to do a 3 month pilot with us at no cost,” Washington said.
Council members asked about timing and outreach. Washington said she hopes to schedule a workshop for Feb. 28 and to begin a March 1 kick‑off, subject to final scheduling; she also said public works staff would deliver filled bins each week to the county facility. The administration agreed to post information on the town website, social channels and to coordinate with the green team.
The program is being framed as a pilot only; Washington said the county representative would be on hand to answer resident questions at the workshop and that the town would reassess after the three-month trial. Council members signaled support for broad resident outreach and asked staff to return with a firm workshop date and logistics.
