Williston board approves voluntary sidewalk improvement assessments

The Williston Special Assessment Board unanimously approved Sidewalk Improvements D23-1 at its Sept. 10 hearing following a presentation by City Engineer David Juma.
Juma said participation in the sidewalk program is voluntary and that each participant signs a protest waiver before work begins. He noted staff members are available to answer homeowner questions and that participants know the totals before work is completed. According to the presentation, 27 homeowners participated in the program last year; property owners may choose to pay immediately or have costs assessed over a 20-year period.
Board member Mark Barstad moved to approve the sidewalk assessments; Jory Meyer seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous by voice.
The action authorizes assessments for participating properties and continues the existing voluntary program; no objections were recorded during the hearing.
