State Fair honors three deputies with 2025 Lifesaving Awards after choking rescue

Marketing Director Courtney Glock presented the Nebraska State Fair’s 2025 Lifesaving Award to three full‑time deputies who were working off duty with the Fair’s security team and who intervened when a guest began choking on Aug. 29, 2025. The recipients were Derek Bosler of Stanton County, Donovan Fowler of Hall County and Larry Lucas of Hall County.
Glock said the Fair’s mission includes creating a place where families can be safe, and she credited the deputies’ quick action with helping the guest return to their family. The guest sustained a broken rib in the incident and “is doing well and continuing to heal,” the board was told during the meeting.
Board members and staff publicly thanked the deputies and their families at the Dec. 19 meeting in Grand Island. The awards were presented at the State Fair Administrative Offices and were noted in the board’s formal minutes.
