Lake Barcroft operations report: spring dredging complete, goose‑egg oiling yields 135 eggs, beaches and lifeguard boats readied

LBWID’s Operations Director reported that the district completed its spring in-house dredging at Tripps Run between March 31 and April 23, producing 110 barge loads. Staff said cove dredging and individual dredge requests remain active: seven loads have been completed and roughly five more loads remain to be done.
The district finalized its goose‑egg oiling season, treating 135 eggs across 27 nests, a result staff said is consistent with the last three years. The district also launched the Geese Peace boat on behalf of the Lake Barcroft Association and reviewed boat operations with Greg Cox, who has taken over Geese Peace operations.
On shoreline and beach work, staff said they will clear debris from the lake and beaches each Friday and that the recent community beach cleanup produced seven small dump‑truck loads of debris (five loads from Beach 1). Beaches 2, 3 and 4 are scheduled for new sand and staff plans to “fluff” existing beaches before new sand arrives the week of May 12. Tree removal is ongoing: one tree was removed about a month ago and a large oak along Cavalier Corridor remains to be removed; staff estimated the cost of garden tree and limb removals at about $900.
The Operations Director said seasonal maintenance of the community garden has begun and that a community member asked about adding a memorial bench for Ashraf and Nazir Bhagat; the person was referred to the Lake Barcroft Association for follow‑up. Lifeguard boats have been cleaned, rigged and launched; staff said they will coordinate with Kevin Hardy on lifeguard operations when he is next in Lake Barcroft.
On finances, staff presented a July–March FY-2025 income/expense statement showing no unexpected variances and reported the district is at roughly 75% of budget with three months remaining in the fiscal year. Staff said they will annotate the statement to explain any overages such as tree removal or computer security updates.
Next steps: staff will continue weekly debris removal, complete remaining cove dredging loads, proceed with beach sand placement in mid‑May and return with updated budget notes and procurement steps for tree and dredging work.
