St. James City Council certifies Nov. 5 election; Whitehead named mayor

The council approved the county-certified returns on a motion by Councilperson Gene Hildebrandt, seconded by Councilperson Kathleen Hanson; all four voting members present voted in favor and Mayor Jonathan Wilson declared the motion carried, 4-0.
The clerk’s submission of the certified statements noted that Christopher Michael Whitehead received a majority of votes in the city for mayor and is elected to a two-year term. The council also recorded that Susan M. Craig received a majority for Councilperson, 1st Ward, and Stephen J. Lindee received a majority for Councilperson, 2nd Ward; each council seat is a four-year term as stated in the returns presented to the council.
Mayor Jonathan Wilson presided over the special meeting at City Hall Council Chambers. City Manager Amanda Knoll was listed as staff present; Councilperson Hannah Rushing was recorded as absent. After approving the returns, Councilperson Paul Harris moved to adjourn; Councilperson Sue Craig seconded, the motion carried by unanimous voice, and the meeting was adjourned at 10:34 a.m.
The minutes include the signature line of Kristin Hurley, City Clerk-Treasurer, as the official record of the action to certify the election and to direct issuance of certificates of election.
