Marion School District board approves hires, shifts graduation to 8 p.m., and allows Wednesday athletics

School Board President John Schwartz called the Marion School District board to order at 5:00 p.m. on April 22, 2026, at Marion Elementary School’s Library Media Center and led a roll call of nine members. The board approved the meeting agenda as presented and modified by a 9-0 roll call vote.
The board accepted a donation to extracurricular programs: Trustee Tiffany Krueger moved to accept a complete youth compound-bow setup donated by Cameron Taylor for the Marion Archery Club; Dawn Papendorf seconded and the motion passed. Board members thanked volunteers who assisted with post-storm cleanup; Trustee Melissa Stuhr said she was very thankful “for the very large group of individuals who helped clean up the ball field and walking trail after the ice storm and the flooding.”
On scheduling, Trustee Lynn Tober-Steinke moved to change the high school graduation start time to 8:00 p.m.; Trustee Melissa Stuhr seconded and the board approved the change. The board also voted to allow athletics to be rescheduled on Wednesdays if necessary for the remainder of the 2025–26 season, a motion put forward by Stuhr and seconded by Nikki Bonikowske.
At 5:16 p.m. the board moved into a closed session under Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(c) to consider personnel matters. The motion to enter closed session, made by President John Schwartz and seconded by Tiffany Krueger, carried by roll call 9-0. The board reconvened in open session at 9:04 p.m.
Following the closed session, President John Schwartz moved to approve the new hires and the resignation presented in closed session; Nikki Bonikowske seconded. The motion passed with a recorded tally of seven ayes, one nay (Bruce Zillmer) and one abstention (Melissa Stuhr) (7-1-1). The board also voted to table action items #6 (Certified Staff Pay Plan), #7 (Classified Staff Compensation), #8 (Certified Staff Contracts) and #9 (Administrative Staff Contracts) until the May 2026 board meeting on a motion from Tiffany Krueger, seconded by Melissa Stuhr.
Bruce Zillmer moved to adjourn at 9:07 p.m.; Melissa Stuhr seconded and the meeting adjourned.
