Wahpeton School Board approves fund transfer, hires and routine budget items

The Wahpeton School Board on June 15 approved a slate of routine financial, personnel and administrative actions as the district prepares for the 2026–27 school year. The board approved payment of claims and accounts against the General Fund totaling $127,479.34 and accepted several annual reports and applications required for the coming year.
In a notable fiscal action, the board voted unanimously in a roll-call vote to close the ZE/HS Sinking and Interest Fund account and authorized transfer of any remaining balance to the Building Fund (motion by Robb Dohman, second by Matt Vetter). The motion passed with all members voting yes.
Other formal approvals included acceptance of the results of the 2026 School Board election and approval of the 2025–2026 DPI Enrollment and Transportation reports. The board also approved the district's 2026–2027 Consolidated Application.
On personnel, the board approved Kristen Kaiser as a one-year Middle School Teacher (6th-grade science) for 2026–27. The meeting record also listed several staff resignations (including paraprofessionals Isaiah Jackson and April Pauly and bus drivers John Jones and Mike Smith) and several new hires for custodial, summer weights and coaching positions.
Superintendent Michael Kaiser and Business Manager Alayna Halstensgaard reported on district preparations: Halstensgaard reviewed budget details and Kaiser provided an update on planned summer facilities projects. Administrators also reported that the district selected Farmers Union Insurance, Kyle DeVries Agency, as the Agent of Record for NDIRF insurance after soliciting proposals.
Wahpeton High School representative Grace Brandt presented data on North Dakota Choice Ready, describing assessments and courses intended to boost students' readiness for life after high school. Technology staff said the district is preparing for a transition to Infinite Campus and launched equipment and software purchases tied to the change.
The board announced upcoming SRCTC and committee meetings and adjourned at 6:53 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 8, 2026.
