Bogue Planning Board installs two members and elects 2026 officers

The Town of Bogue Planning Board installed two new members and elected its chair and co-chair for 2026 during an eight-minute meeting Oct. 2 at Bogue Town Hall.

Co-Chairperson Robert O’Chat called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and, after roll call, Member JoAnn Parker moved to accept the agenda; Member Cecil Hurst seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board also unanimously approved the Aug. 7, 2025, minutes.

“The first item of business is the installation of T.J. Southard as a member of the Planning Board,” Co-Chairperson Robert O’Chat said. Clerk Barbara Owens administered the Planning Board Oath to T.J. Southard; Southard read and signed the oath while placing his left hand on the Bible and raising his right hand. The board then administered the same oath to Scott Stoner, who was seated as an alternate member.

Following the installations, Co-Chairperson O’Chat nominated Member T.J. Southard to serve as chair for 2026; Member JoAnn Parker seconded and the board unanimously voted to elect Southard to that post effective Jan. 2026. Member Southard nominated Chris Griffin for co-chair; Member Cecil Hurst seconded, and the board unanimously elected Griffin to the co-chair position beginning Jan. 2026.

The planner reported two recent single-family construction items — at 124 Pine Needle Circle and 235 Lake Arthur Drive — and noted an accessory building at 235 Lake Arthur Drive. The record does not include permit numbers, timelines, or further construction details.

Board members also noted that Bogue Day was “a tremendous success” and thanked those involved. Member JoAnn Parker moved to adjourn, Member Cecil Hurst seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.

What’s next: The newly elected chair and co-chair are appointed to begin their terms in January 2026; no additional hearings or public hearings were scheduled during the Oct. 2 meeting.
