Somers Central board elects new president and vice president, approves routine organizational resolutions

The Somers Central School District Board of Education on July 7 elected Amanda Bridal as board president and Chadwick Olsen as vice president and approved a package of routine organizational resolutions and appointments.
The reorganizational meeting, convened and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, included roll call, oath-taking for returning and newly elected trustees and a series of consent motions. The board voted unanimously by voice to adopt the agenda and then approved nominations for board officers. Amanda Bridal took the oath as president; Chadwick Olsen was sworn in as vice president after a motion and voice vote in favor.
The board approved appointment of district officers and stipend rates for the 2026–27 school year and ratified establishment of the district's bank accounts and authorized signers. It also designated the Journal News and the Somers Record as the district's official newspapers for the coming year and authorized the purchasing agent to submit bid notices for district procurement.
The board confirmed administrative and committee assignments, naming Margaret DeLorenzo, Chadwick Olsen and Amanda Bridal to the audit committee (with a community member to be named later) and designating members to the policy, communications, citizens finance and safety committees. The board also adopted the existing policy manual for 2026–27 and appointed Dignity Act (DASA) coordinators, listing staff by school/role.
Other items adopted included the list of impartial hearing officers and appointment of Section 3214 hearing officers Ronald Longo and Ken Bernstein at a rate of $210 per hour with a four-hour minimum per hearing date. The board approved that the superintendent's signature be authorized to certify payrolls for 2026–27.
A motion authorizing the superintendent to approve and execute contracts up to $35,000 for the 2026–27 school year was approved. The board also approved personnel and business consent agendas, including acceptance of an internal audit report on health benefits and a memorandum of agreement with Summer School Related Professionals regarding food service salary schedules.
The meeting closed the public comment period with no speakers and moved into executive session to discuss the employment history of particular persons. The board indicated an intent to return only to adjourn.
"We're very excited about the folks that we've hired this year," Superintendent Dr. Adam Braunstein said during his report, thanking administrative staff and those involved in the hiring process.
The board meeting covered standard reorganizational business required each year; several items (oaths, committee assignments, bank signers, contract-approval thresholds) were handled as consent items and carried by voice vote.
