Burlington’s City Council opened its July 6 meeting by swearing in a new police chief and pausing for photos and remarks.
The chief, who was sworn in during the meeting, told the chamber, “I am truly honored to stand before you tonight as the next chief of police for the Burlington Police Department. I promise to lead with integrity, fairness, accountability, and respect.” The chief thanked city leadership, coworkers and family for their support.
Mayor John Phillips and the city clerk conducted the oath and allowed time afterward for photographs. Council members and attendees offered brief congratulations before the meeting moved on to a proclamation and the regular agenda.
The swearing-in did not include additional personnel actions or a vote recorded during the meeting. The council resumed its scheduled business after photos and brief remarks.
