Board renames Grandview shooting range for longtime Alderman Jim Crane

The Grandview Board of Aldermen on Nov. 25 adopted Resolution 25-12 to rename the Grandview Shooting Range in honor of the late James "Jim" Crane, a longtime alderman and community volunteer.

The board moved and seconded the resolution and voted to approve it during the organizational-business portion of the meeting. Officials also read proclamations and resolutions submitted by the Missouri House of Representatives, the Missouri Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives recognizing Crane’s decades of public service, his Vietnam-era military service and his community leadership.

Those documents, read aloud to the chamber, described Crane’s 40 years as a Grandview alderman, his work with the Parks and Recreation Commission, his service with the Grandview Youth Court, and a 34-year career at Hallmark. The congressional entry the board read included a biographical tribute and language honoring Crane’s civic contributions.

Family members thanked the board and community for the recognition. A family member said the family was humbled and appreciative of the city’s efforts to memorialize Crane, and that "Dad would have been so humbled by all of this." Another relative said Crane "loved Grandview" and would have been honored by the renaming.

The resolution and the accompanying readings conclude the board’s formal action to rename the facility and send an inscribed copy of the legislative resolutions to Crane’s family. There was no contested debate on the measure and the board proceeded to the evening’s remaining business after the family remarks.
