"After further investigation, it was also learned that there was a death investigation involved and, that's being investigated and indications are it's a homicide," the sheriff said, adding that the Lac Courte Oreilles (LCO) police department has taken the lead and the sheriff's office is assisting.
In a separate patrol report, the department’s lieutenant said patrol volume has been steady and provided staffing and activity figures: 3,714 calls for service in June (up from 6xx last year as noted in the record), 28 traffic citations, 36 written warnings, and 15 total crashes during the period with two personal‑injury crashes. The lieutenant also described coordination for recent community events and upcoming National Night Out preparations.
The sheriff noted the department recently filled two support‑staff positions (receptionist and sheriff secretary) and that the new hires are in training. No formal votes or directives related to the investigation were recorded during the meeting.
