Mackinac County commissioners approve switch to Aetna Angle Health for 2026

The Mackinac County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Oct. 27 to adopt a new Aetna Angle Health employee plan for 2026, replacing a renewal offer from Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Bryce Tracy, speaking on behalf of the County Insurance Committee, told the board the committee presented two options for next year: renewing the county's current BCBS plan at an approximate annual cost of $1.6 million, or switching to an Aetna Angle Health plan projected at about $796,000 annually. Tracy also presented a five-year strategy intended to reduce health-care costs over time. He said either option would continue to be administered by Acrisure.
Commissioner Austin Kimberling moved to approve the Aetna Angle Health plan and Commissioner Daryl Schroeder seconded. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with all five commissioners—Kimberling, John Kling, Chair Mike Patrick, Schroeder and Judy St. Louis-Scott—voting yes.
In other business, Commissioner Daryl Schroeder thanked the Equalization Department for holding an informational meeting with township assessors. The board also approved the regular bills for Oct. 27, totaling $44,733.63; that motion likewise passed unanimously after a motion from Commissioner Austin Kimberling and a second from Commissioner Judy St. Louis-Scott.
The special meeting was called to order by Chair Mike Patrick at 11:00 a.m. in the Annex Boardroom in St. Ignace and adjourned at 11:24 a.m. The minutes were signed by County Clerk Hillary Vowell.
